about

I am currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Biosciences and Nutrition at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. Prior to working here, I was a graduate student in the Department of Plant Biology at the University of Minnesota. For both my Ph.D. and postdoctoral work, I have been using a combination of cell biology, genetics, and bioinformatics to better understand the function of centrioles and cilia. I have written more about my research and teaching interests in their respective sections on this website.

This site is intended to be a place for me to communicate my research and teaching interests with others. The design of this website has been inspired by my interests in biology, photography, nature, and technology. All the images on this site are original and were photographed by me individually or as a collaborative effort in a group project. The layout, format, and design of this site were also conducted by me with the help of some great programs like Dreamweaver (Adobe) and Picasa (Google).

Many of the images used in the design of this website come from biological sources. For example, the circular structures in the banner of this page are from electron micrographs of diatom frustules. These images depict the intricate and ornately decorated silicon covering uniquely adapted in this beautiful group of organisms.
